Getting started

OK so my husband has just set me up on this blog and am raring to go. I made the decision out of the blue to do this only about an hour ago as I was coming to the end of a 5km run round my local park.

I have tried a million times to lose weight with limited success and so the blog was my idea as a self motivational tool to help me stick at it this time.

I am not getting any younger and would love to get to my ideal weight of about 10st this year. We have a couple of weddings to go to and am really determined to slim down, as maybe next year we will start thinking about babies etc....

I got on the scales this morning and was unsurprised by what stared back at me - 12st2. I have probably put on about 1/2 a stone since I got married last September and have "relaxed" a little since. We had a great mini honeymoon in Spain, a proper honeymoon in Thailand and have just come back from a week in the South of France. On the eating front neither me nor my husband have held back on these holidays and this is why I am now beginning to feel uncomfortable in my clothes and with my appearance etc.

I have never been this heavy before in my life so this has really got to work! So, in the rather windy conditions of South West London today I rather unenthusiastically put on my trainers and headed for Richmond Park. After feeling miserable from facing my weight increase, I now feel good after my run and am going to approach this positively. This is so important as eating crap seems to flow mostly from boredom and from typical comfort eating.

I am lucky enough that my husband does most of the cooking - but he has now been warned in relation to portion sizes, which is probably my biggest downfall as his cooking is quite low fat and involves lots of veggies. He is more keen on meat than I am so I find myself eating sausages, bacon etc when I probably wouldn't have bothered if I was cooking for myself. I am going to be more alert and aware of portion sizes from now on. One of my biggest downfalls is pasta - I love it! - and I always cook far too much. In addition I often eat around 7 or 8pm which is quite late and doesn't give much chance for me to burn the carbs off. I bought some scales a while back so will have to dig these out and get strict again.

Wow - I didn't expect to be able to write so much so easily! - I think I am going to enjoy this

Bye bye for now xx
