Progress report

So I am now 2 weeks into my diet and am am pleased as punch to report I got on the scales this morning and am now down to 11st9 (163lbs). That means i have lost 1/2 stone in two weeks!!! If I can continue to lose even 1lb a week from now on I will be pleased. I just need to stay focused and remember that just because i have lost a bit it doesn't mean I should go back to old habits of eating anything I want to....

I need to carry on being strict and doing what i am doing. Off to a barbecue now. Am going to stay off the booze and buy some veggies to BBQ and salad. no meat....

In terms of exercise I had a day off on Friday, but did the 5k parkrun on Sat morning, shaving 2 mins off last week's time.

May run to work tomorrow! x

first disappointment

I have been doing so well since i started this attempt and was disappointed to get on the scales today to find a 2lb increase since last Saturday - I have been an angel with what I am eating and the amount of exercising I am doing....ho hum

BUT then I tried on some trousers which have been a bit tight of late and was pleased to see a bit of bagginess around the legs, bum and waist. WILL KEEP GOING!!

Ate well today- even stayed away from pub tonight as I knew I would end up drinking unnecessarily.

Not getting on scales now until next Sunday and will work tres hard in between now and then xxx

Kepp on running

I ran home from work again - woo hoo!

Just had lovely chinese veggies with rice - no meat and hardly any oil. Thanks Dougie xx

Still going strong

Still as determined as ever....still eating well. I had a break from running yesterday but did some squats instead with some tins of beans! My bum is sore today!

I also need to get a sports bra urgently.....will pick one up tonight from M&S me thinks and then run home. Was going to run to work this morning but it was raining hard so thought better of it.

Bank holiday Monday

Here are a couple of pictures of me taken at the beginning of the month while on holiday in Nice. It was when i got back from this holiday that I decided enough was enough and i was going to attack attack attack...

Had fun picnic in sun yesterday - only ate fruit and some healthy M&S "eat well" pretzels. Had a couple of crisps later on, but overall i was very good! Of course alcohol but stuck to fizzy wine and G&Ts. No lager or cider again..

Sunday lovely Sunday

Another run under my belt! YES!!

I am so obsessed with this weight loss and fitness project now - I think obsession is the only way to do this, and if that what it takes.......

Going for a picnic later - another test! Will pick up healthy snacks and avoid crisps.

Sunday 24 may 09

Went to a BBQ last night. I made sure I ate before I went - some lovely Uncle Ben's lemon and rosemary ( i think) rice. It is just under 400 cals and about 4 grams of fat.

When I got to the barbie, I had some salad and a little bit of bread with some tzatziki, and a little bit of cheese. I didn't eat any meat and had to turn down people's encouragement to eat some a couple of times. Overall I think I did quite well.

It was a fairly boozy affair however. I know that if I could try and cut out some of the boozing me progress would be better but it seems that 90% of all get togethers with mates involve drinking in some form or other. This is unlikely to change so I have to be good and at least opt for lower cal options and stay away from those pints!

I have just calculated my BMI. It was 28.3 when I started this and it has gone down to 27.5 now. I am in the "overweight" category - (you don't say!) - 24.9 will get me into the "normal" category. According to the calculator this will occur when I get to 149 lbs......

Saturday 23 May 2009

so pleased!!

After some hesitation I decided to weigh myself this morning. I was absolutely over the moon to see 11st11 staring back at me. I have lost 5 lbs in one week. I am delighted that all the exercise and careful eating is paying off.

I can't expect this every week but it is a real boost. I am finding the 3factchicks site an absolute godsend. xxx

Parkrun

It is a beautiful sunny day here in London today!

This morning I did my first "parkrun". It is a really cool free organised run every week in local parks. You register online once and then just turn up to any run. You get a time on finish and the results are posted online. I am going to try and do this every Saturday morning - it is a really nice way to start the weekend.

Check out the parkrun website.

Last night

Went to the pub. I stuck to drinking wine and G&T - ie i avoided my usual pints of lager or cider. We also had some food and I was careful to opt for vegetrian chilli with boiled rice - which was lovely and not fatty at all.

Will be going for lunch with colleagues today to an Italian up the road - I will be careful to select a non creamy pasta and avoid bread and butter etc

Today's lunch

Had same sandwich for lunch today as yesterday as well as packet of mini pretzels from M&S. I also had a mini veggie snack sushi - good low fat snack.

I didn't have time for breakfast.

Update

I made it into work having "enjoyed" 6km run along the river to get here. Before I left I couldn't resist jumping on the scales - was delighted to see I am now 11st13 (167lbs) - so 3lbs lost in 5 days.

Day 5

I can't believe I am on day 5 already. This blog has so far been such a key factor in helping me stick to my goals. Knowing that I would have to come on here and write down each failure is a real deterrent to making those incorrect choices in the first place.

I am up early and going to run into work again today. By the end of this run I will have run a marathon since Sunday! I really find that running in the morning helps you to stick to your goals throughout the day as you don't want all that good work to go to waste - rather than saying oh I'll eat that packet of crisps and then run them off later, if you work on that basis you are always playing catch up rather than being ahead of the game.

Things I have cut out on so far: lager, cider, butter, cheese, chocolate, crisps. (all terrible things when you think of it!)

Went to Waitrose last night and stocked up on healthy items such as: fresh fruit and veg, pasta, noodles, cottage cheese, cereal.

Life is good! x

Lunch

Am super busy at work today. Managed to grab a sandhich from M&S 395 calories and 12.8g of fat. Have also bought a bumper pack of clementines to keep me going through the afternoon.

Am considering running home from work.........!

I resisted going for lunch with colleagues - which was a good thing as I saw them all tucking into Thai food and lager in pub next door! (normally I would have been there with bells on)

A new day!

After a good night's sleep I got up this morning and decided to run to work again! So it is now 9.45am and I have done my workout for the day, hurray!

Husband gave lots of words of encouragement this moring which I really appreciate. Rome wasn't built in a day and I should not expect too much too soon - I should just keep up the exercise and watch what I am eating and this WILL work.

My first mini goal is that I have a wedding to go to in the Italian lakes on 17 July and I really woud like to feel like I have lost a good bit of weight before this date and buy myself a nice dress for the occasion.

I got on the scales this morning and am down to 12st. (168lb)

Tuesday 19 May 2009

Another run done

Even though I failed a bit at lunch time, I did not do any snacking and then I ran 6km home along the Thames. Had a few spoonfuls of tuna rice stir fry for dinner. Not a big fan of tuna which frustrates my husband. We ended up arguing about it and then it didn't get eaten : (

Will just go to bed now.

1st failure

Well I went for lunch with colleagues - fishfinger sandwhich with a few chips and a couple of galsses of wine : (

Will not let this steer me off course - will run home from work tonight to make up!

Day 3

So today is day 3 of my weight loss attempt. Am doing well I think, I certainly have cut down a lot, am thinking about what I am eating and importanly why I am eating. Am trying to avoid eating out of boredom or frustration.

I cycled in to work again this morning - takes about 20 minutes. My work colleagues are making noises about going for lunch today - this invariably means a high fat and calorific affair which I will need to avoid! Maybe I'll go for a run instead.....it is raining a bit but I quite like running in the rain!

Excercise overload....

So I finished work, cycled to ballet class, did 2.5 hours of ballet then cycled home. All good stuff but it meant I only got to eat at 10pm.

Never mind! Off to bed now - should sleep like a baby! x

I survived...just

Back from my lunchtime run - 31 mins of pain!

I had small banana before i wient and have now eaten my paella - yum.

Will spend rest of afternoon drinking water, peppermint tea and avoiding chocolate and crisps that are lurking in tuck box on floor below.....

Looking forward to ballet class tonight. I recommend this workout studio in Chiswick, London, as an alternative to standard gym membership.

Run Becky Run

My ipod is charged, my Nike+ chip inserted and am ready to go......off for a lunchtime run (soon!)

Hope I can put a link to my Nike+ on this blog at some point.

Am starving : /

Step up that exercise!

I am definitely happier in life generally when I am exercising. When I get into a no exercise rut I tend to eat more and the motivation to exercise decreases further.

So yesterday I kicked off this attempt at weight loss with a 5km run around the park and am determined to keep a high level of activity going throughout. I cycled to work this morning, which took me about 20 minutes. Later on I am going to my ballet class which I have recently started again having enjoyed it when I was a child. This will hopefully be good for toning but I still need to do cardio work.

I have brought my left over paella into work for my lunch - normally I would have just eaten it all yesterday! I have to confess to having a couple of glasses of wine last night though.......

Welcome to my blog.

This blog will record my attempts to lose weight. If this succeeds I would like this blog to act as a template for other people to help them lose weight.

Web support

Today is going well. Husband cooked a delicious paella and I was careful with portion size. I have found a great site for diet support and am likely to be a frequent visitor.

Still having fun messing around with this blog and looking for appropriate "gadgets" to add on. I don't want it to look too commercial.

Getting started

OK so my husband has just set me up on this blog and am raring to go. I made the decision out of the blue to do this only about an hour ago as I was coming to the end of a 5km run round my local park.

I have tried a million times to lose weight with limited success and so the blog was my idea as a self motivational tool to help me stick at it this time.

I am not getting any younger and would love to get to my ideal weight of about 10st this year. We have a couple of weddings to go to and am really determined to slim down, as maybe next year we will start thinking about babies etc....

I got on the scales this morning and was unsurprised by what stared back at me - 12st2. I have probably put on about 1/2 a stone since I got married last September and have "relaxed" a little since. We had a great mini honeymoon in Spain, a proper honeymoon in Thailand and have just come back from a week in the South of France. On the eating front neither me nor my husband have held back on these holidays and this is why I am now beginning to feel uncomfortable in my clothes and with my appearance etc.

I have never been this heavy before in my life so this has really got to work! So, in the rather windy conditions of South West London today I rather unenthusiastically put on my trainers and headed for Richmond Park. After feeling miserable from facing my weight increase, I now feel good after my run and am going to approach this positively. This is so important as eating crap seems to flow mostly from boredom and from typical comfort eating.

I am lucky enough that my husband does most of the cooking - but he has now been warned in relation to portion sizes, which is probably my biggest downfall as his cooking is quite low fat and involves lots of veggies. He is more keen on meat than I am so I find myself eating sausages, bacon etc when I probably wouldn't have bothered if I was cooking for myself. I am going to be more alert and aware of portion sizes from now on. One of my biggest downfalls is pasta - I love it! - and I always cook far too much. In addition I often eat around 7 or 8pm which is quite late and doesn't give much chance for me to burn the carbs off. I bought some scales a while back so will have to dig these out and get strict again.

Wow - I didn't expect to be able to write so much so easily! - I think I am going to enjoy this

Bye bye for now xx
